A City man who threatened to stab a woman to steal her handbag was jailed for two years and two months at Gloucester Crown Court.
Tony Williams, 23, of Regent Street, also faced charges committed to the crown court from the magistrates' court relating to a stolen Mercedes.
led tube lamps Prosecutor Lisa Hennessy said Gail Edwards was walking home with a friend after a night out and they were near King's Square, Gloucester, at 1.45am on March 30.
The two women felt someone push them from behind.
"Ms Edwards' handbag flew off her shoulder and the contents spread all over the pavement," Mrs Hennessy said. "She held onto the shoulder strap but it broke.
"As she was trying to gather the contents, Williams came up behind her and said 'I've got a knife, give me your handbag.'"
Ms Edwards gave her handbag up as her friend felt something sharp against her but neither of the women remembered seeing a knife, Mrs Hennessy said.
Stainless Steel EarringsThe incident was caught on CCTV footage and Williams was arrested nearby with the handbag and an umbrella with a sharp spike.
In a victim impact statement, Ms Edwards said she still felt anxious and was reluctant to go out.
Williams had admitted threatening violence and snatching the handbag.

The offences heard in the magistrates court stem from Williams stealing the Mercedes belonging to his mother's partner on March 25. There were also charges of driving without insurance, without a licence, taking the vehicle, theft and shoplifting.
Giles Nelson, defending, said his client had entered a guilty plea at the first opportunity and came from a background of drug and alcohol abuse.
"With the right direction it is possible that he can turn his life around," Mr Nelson said.
Judge Michael Harington said Williams' offences were so serious that imprisonment was the only option.
He sentenced him to two years and two months, to serve half in custody with the other half on licence.
